Lacca Rubia are made with organic pigments based on aluminum and natural dyes. They can be used with any of the Doratura varnishes to create a rich color. They must be mulled thoroughly into the varnish before applying to the instrument to ensure an even distribution.

Doratura Paints are strongly pigmented oil varnishes. They are a mixture of an amber-based doratura varnish and an ultra fine Lacca Rubia pigment that is guaranteed not to settle out on standing. These paints can be used straight as a very thin layer of strongly colored varnish, or mixed in with other oil varnishes to adjust the color. Doratura Paints are 25% by weight of pigment ground in an oil varnish medium, or 42 grams varnish mixed with 14 grams pigment per 50 ml.
