Imprimatura Doratura is a primer and sealer system intended to duplicate the effect of age on wood. The primer interacts with the natural organic compounds found in wood, causing it to turn a golden color when exposed to ultraviolet light. The resin sealer helps prepare the wood for future applications of ground. Primer II is slightly more intense than Primer I, and thus requires a more careful application for an even result. Approximately 25-30 ml of primer is needed for a violin, and approximately 100 ml for a cello.
All of Mr. Scott's award winning instruments since 1999 have been prepared with this process.
