Varnishing Accessories
Muller

Used for grinding pigments and pumice into varnish.  This is a very comfortable design that fits easily into the palm of your hand.  It was made by David Smith of Blowing Sands (Seattle), in collaboration with David Van Zandt.

Please call for pricing and availability.

Scotchbrite Pads
6" x 9"
$2 each

We are now using an easier method to remove excess ground varnish.  These white ScotchBrite pads are similar to the green household scrub pads, but less abrasive.  They are perfect for cleaning off the ground coat, before doing a final rub-out with canvas.  One pad can be cut into enough smaller pieces to do 4 to 5 violins.

Prosthetic Foam

Large piece for $10 (includes S/H)       -OR-          10 assorted sticks/blocks for $5

We have found a supplier for prosthetic foam, as featured in our varnishing demonstration.  Pre-cut foam sticks (8"x1"x1"*) or blocks (3"x3"x1"*) can be shipped with any varnish order.  Large pieces (10"x14"x1"*) can be shipped individually via US mail.  Pre-cut pieces can be cut to size with a sharp scissors.  Large pieces need to be sliced smaller with a sharp papercutter or knife in one smooth motion.  *All dimensions are approximate.

Thanks to Mark Hollinger for discovering this amazing product, and thanks to David van Zandt for finding a supplier for it.
